How Boba Charge Works: A Simpler Way for Short-Term Rental Hosts to Offer EV Charging

Electric vehicles are becoming more common every year, and if you own a short-term rental, chances are you’ve already had—or will soon have—guests asking one simple question:

“Do you have EV charging?”

Until now, offering EV charging at a vacation rental or Airbnb could be complicated. Traditional EV chargers can require electrical work, professional installation, and a permanent setup. And if you want to charge guests for the electricity they use, things can get even more complicated.

That’s why we created Boba Charge.

What Is Boba Charge?

Boba Charge is a plug-in EV charging solution designed for property owners who want to offer EV charging while keeping the setup simple.

The concept is straightforward:

Plug it in. Set your price. Let your guests charge. Get paid.

Boba Charge combines EV charging with a built-in payment system, giving short-term rental hosts a simple way to offer EV charging as an amenity while allowing guests to pay for the electricity they use.

How Does Boba Charge Plug In?

Boba Charge is designed to work with a 240V NEMA 14-50 outlet.

If your property already has a compatible NEMA 14-50 outlet installed, setting up Boba Charge is simple: plug the charger in, connect it to the system, and you're ready to offer EV charging.

No electrician is needed to install the charger itself when the appropriate outlet is already in place.

Don't have a NEMA 14-50 outlet?

No problem. You can have a qualified electrician install the appropriate outlet and electrical circuit based on your property's electrical system and local requirements. Once the outlet is installed, Boba Charge simply plugs in.

Unlike a hardwired EV charger, the Boba Charge unit itself does not need to be permanently wired into your electrical system.

That makes it especially interesting for short-term rental owners who want to add EV charging without turning the project into a major installation.

Your Guest Doesn't Need an App

Here's another part of Boba Charge that makes it different.

Your guest doesn't need to download a charging app, create an account, or join an EV charging network.

They simply scan the QR code on the charger.

The QR code takes the guest to a web-based payment experience where they can pay for their charging session.

Once payment is completed, charging can begin.

Scan. Pay. Charge.

That's it.

You Control the Price

As the property owner, you control your charging price through the Boba Charge owner system.

You decide what you want to charge your guests for using the charger.

Your guest doesn't need access to your settings, and they don't need to become a member of another charging network.

You provide the charging amenity.

They pay for what they use.

Turn EV Charging Into a Revenue-Producing Amenity

For a short-term rental host, EV charging doesn't have to be something you simply give away.

Think about the amenities that help make a vacation rental attractive: a hot tub, pool, great parking, outdoor space, or a convenient location.

For an EV driver, having a charger right at the property can be just as valuable.

Instead of sending your guests somewhere else to charge—or simply absorbing the cost of their electricity—you can offer charging directly at your property and charge guests for the energy they use.

That means EV charging can become more than just another amenity.

It can become a revenue-producing amenity.

Why We Built Boba Charge

We believe EV charging shouldn't be limited to hotels, shopping centers, parking garages, and large commercial properties.

There are millions of homes, vacation rentals, small businesses, and other properties where people could benefit from convenient access to EV charging.

The challenge has been making it simple.

Boba Charge was built around a straightforward question:

What if a short-term rental owner could offer paid EV charging without having to become an EV charging company?

That's the idea behind Boba Charge.

A plug-in charger.

A simple payment experience.

And a way for property owners to participate in the growing EV charging market.

Is Boba Charge Right for Your Short-Term Rental?

If you own an Airbnb, VRBO, vacation rental, cabin, beach house, guesthouse, or other short-term rental, Boba Charge gives you another way to make your property more attractive to EV drivers.

And if you already have a compatible 240V NEMA 14-50 outlet, getting started can be remarkably simple.

Plug in. Set your price. Let your guests charge.

That's Boba Charge.
